Chase Jackson sets 21.02m North American

Chase Jackson threw a North American shot put record of 21.02m at the ISTAF meeting in Berlin on Sunday, August 30. The two-time world champion's first-round effort broke a 32-year-old continental record and made her just the second woman in 14 years to join the event's 21-metre club.

Jackson's throw improved her own US record of 20.95m from June 2025. It also eclipsed the previous North American record of 20.96m, set by Cuba's Belsy Laza in 1994. Jackson backed up her record with three more throws beyond 20 metres. Only the Netherlands' European champion Jessica Schilder, who threw 21.09m in May, has thrown farther this year. This is the first season since 1990 where two women have surpassed 21 metres.

"It was amazing. I have been waiting for a throw like this for so long," said Jackson. She confirmed she will now train in Berlin before heading to the Diamond League final in Brussels. Canada's Sarah Mitton placed second with 20.10m. Olympic champion Yemisi Mabry of Germany was third with 19.73m.

Other Berlin highlights

The Berlin meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event, featured several other notable performances. Germany's two-time European champion Julian Weber won the javelin with 89.54m. USA's Olympic and world discus champion Valarie Sion took victory with 67.89m.

Middle-distance action saw Australia's Cameron Myers win the 1500m in 3:30.96. Ethiopia's Nigist Getachew won the 800m in 1:58.04. Germany's Gesa Felicitas Krause claimed the 2000m steeplechase in 5:56.79.

Hurdles titles went to Jamaica's Danielle Williams in the 100m hurdles (12.78) and to Rushell Clayton (53.72) and Emil Agyekum (48.18) in the 400m hurdles. World decathlon champion Leo Neugebauer threw 58.54m in a standalone discus event.

Campbell's record throw in Brescia

Rajindra Campbell produced another massive shot put mark at the Grand Prix Brescia, another Continental Tour Silver meeting. The Jamaican launched a national record of 22.59m. That moved him to joint 13th on the world all-time list and beat home favourite Leonardo Fabbri, who threw 21.99m. Campbell improved his own previous Jamaican record of 22.44m from June and had two more throws over 22 metres.

Britain's Amy Hunt, fresh from four golds at the European Championships, won the Brescia 100m in 11.06. South Africa's Bayanda Walaza, the double 2024 world U20 champion, won the men's 100m in 10.00. His compatriot Leendert Koekemoer ran a South African U20 record of 44.52 to win the 400m from lane one.

Patterson clears 2.02m in Heilbronn

At the Internationales Hochsprungmeeting Heilbronn, Australia's 2022 world champion Eleanor Patterson matched her personal best of 2.02m to win the high jump. She defeated world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who cleared 2.00m for second. This meeting was also a Continental Tour Silver fixture. The full weekend fixtures across the tour delivered a series of major marks, with several athletes moving up the all-time stats lists.
