Sources and methods
The news section of stridecount is compiled from published feeds and indexes of news publications covering the discipline and the mark in North America. These sources report on what was run, jumped, or thrown, and under what conditions. Each story is identified by its original publication, which is credited as the source. Our process involves automated assistance to summarise and rewrite these reports into a standard, concise format, focusing solely on the factual outcomes and context of the athletic performance.
When a factual claim, such as a specific mark or result, appears in only one publication, it is treated as provisional. It is included but flagged within our system for verification. We await corroboration from a second independent source before considering it a stable fact suitable for inclusion in our reference pages. This ensures the reliability of the data presented across the site.
The reference pages for disciplines, meets, athletes, races, programmes, colleges, and venues are built from these verified, stable facts. Each page centres on a structured facts table containing core information. This is accompanied by a credited photograph sourced directly from the event or organisation, where available. The prose on these pages is derived solely from the aggregated data in the table, providing clear context without editorialising.
Coverage in the news section is refreshed continuously as new reports are published by our source outlets. The underlying data in reference pages is updated as new events occur and results are ratified, typically within a day of official confirmation. A systematic review of all reference pages is conducted at the end of each major competition season to incorporate any late corrections or additions, ensuring stridecount remains a current and accurate factual resource.
